Praying or Saving Lives? Praying of course.

A Tunisian pilot who paused to pray instead of taking emergency mesauresbefore crash-landing his plane, killing 16 people, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail by an Italian court along with his co-pilot.

A fuel-gauge malfunction was partly to blame but prosecutors also said the pilot succumbed to panic, praying out loud instead of following emergency procedures then opting to crash-land the plane instead trying to reach a nearby airport

Maybe he's not as good at landing planes as Sully Sullenberger, but is 10 years of prison fair?  Praying for his life instead of trying to crash his plane when he could have potentially had the opportunity to land it?

well i think he should of tried to land the plane because its his jopb to fly people to there destination saftley and he didnt do it but you cant blame him that much because he was scared for his life and he just wanted to pray before his time was up so i think 10 years is a little to harsh

I don't see why he couldn't have followed emergency procedure while praying. I can't believe they're sentencing him to ten years in prison, that's harsh but then again he is responsible for those people's lives.

10 years in prison is not fair.  They guy was panicking! It was just his instinct to pray.  But I agree that he should have taken into account that he had to get the passengers to safety first.  maybe cut the 1.5 years or less.  or better yet, suspend his pilot license for a while.

I'm sorry, but he should get more than 10 years.
16 people DIED because he decided to pray.
He couldn't multi-task? He had a co-pilot.
They could have like tag-team prayed or something
haha

Like Peter said, he was responsible for their lives. He didn't live up to that responsibility and it's his fault and he gets what he deserves.
Actually he doesn't because 10 years is being generous for the death of 16 people.

my question is why couldnt he pray WHILE landing??

i agree with Karen, people were killed because he wasnt being responsible. ten years to me isn't really outrageous

As sad that it is he deserves the punishment.

Would someone get prosecuted if someone were driving a car into to school because there brakes broke down but instead of veering off course they decided to pray? Yeah they would get prosecuted.

i dont think 10 years is long enough, he was trying to save his own life by praying rather than save the lives of others. that is quite selfish. and i dontknow who he was praying to but im sure that god or whatever would be intersted to see that selfishness in action.

He is responsible for their lives but maybe he only prayed for a few seconds?
Maybe if he hadnt prayed, he still couldnt have saved them. aaaaaaah

its sad, but the guy is responsible for the lives
of the passenger. when we aboard a plane
we trust the pilot to know what he's doing & to get us safely to our destination.

the pilot shouldn't be panicking in a time of crisis.
he should take charge and with all his might try to save
the lives of the passengers as well as himself.

yes 10 years is a little harsh.
but honestly he should go to jail for some amount of time.

haha i guess he thought praying might save the plane.
he should have told the passengers to start praying too then...
