Paper or plastic?

Congo is banning plastic bags since they block drainage systems, cause floods and landslides, contaminate the soil, and choke animals. Its not the only country to do so, Rwanda and Italy already have and supposedly the EU has a similar initiative in the works.

Will this be successful? Should the US ban plastic bags? Would the US be willing?

Are the paper bags 100% from recycled materials?

it would be too difficult to get every american to stop using plastic bags. also, there will always be that one group of people who are against this movement

I don't think we should go so far as to completely ban plastic bags, we should just make sure to recycle them and not litter with them so it doesn't become a huge issue. I don't think it has yet.

I think its an awesome idea, but the following of the concept would be really difficult due to the amount of companies that make them and people who use them. Plus they're really convenient for things like school lunches, and parents won't want to spend more on recycled bags for their kids when they just need to make a lunch, not be concerned about the earth.

A number of cities in the US have enacted similar bans (several in the Bay Area, and Santa Monica I believe, as well) or considered them.
