Dangerous Walking

Police in Fort Lee, New Jersey are fining people 85$ for "dangerous walking". This includes crossing the street while texting or having headphones on.

Do you think people should be allowed to do this without a fine, or that texting while crossing the street is bringing too much danger to themselves? Thoughts?

I think if you still look both ways before you cross is being as safe as you could be pretty much. I mean it is the driver's responsibilty to be on the lookout of pedestrians.

This is rather stupid. There are many things that put people in danger such as running, skipping, or crawling. People can trip, run into one another or slow down sidewalk traffic. Should we make all of these things illegal too?

i think this is a little bit over the top and that cop should be transfered to a different city where he can give out legit tickets and not silly ones.

People should not be fined for texting or listening to music while walking. Smart people wouldn't do this anyway for their own safety.

Pedestrians should have the right of way... I think this law is definitely unnecessary

I kind of see where they are coming from, considering that when people are texting, they are totally oblivious to what's going on around them. So I think that this law is good in a way, because now less accidents will occur and pedestrians will be more attentive to what's going on around them.

I can see why this law is ridiculous and why it is reasonable. I think that if a person is being completely careless and walking in front of a car while texting then they do deserve a ticket but when someone looks both ways but has headphones in I think that is fine. I could just see police officers using dangerous walking as an excuse to give someone a ticket that they really didn't deserve.

I couldnt support this law because it just seems more abusable than useful

This is just an excuse to give a ticket. People should just be more aware and shouldn't be texting in dangerous situations such as walking across the street.

the police suck. they think that they can make laws about anything and everything. now they have one more stupid reason to pull people over.
