Week-in-Review - What Awesometastic (or not-so-much) Happenings Have Happened?

An interesting something happened this week that reminded me that perhaps I'm not as mindful as I used to be or as I should be of all of the things that are happening in your lives outside of my classroom (it's NOT an excuse, just an explanation, but between the three MiniCavs and my mom's accident, my personal life has made tremendous demands on my time and energy this year and has unfortunately dramatically cut into my ability to attend events, etc. like I used to).

What's something great - or not so great - that happened in your life this week?  (If you'd rather not post it publicly, you can message me privately from this site, but I'd really like to know!)

In the Life of Cav: My older son (my middle child, the one who's a kindergartener at Brookhaven) is in love with the world this week and it has rocked my happiness index to see how delighted he is - green is his favorite color, so St. Patrick's Day is like JD Day as far as he's concerned.  He's worn all green to school EVERY DAY this week, and this morning told me that I needed to rename everyone's breakfast because it's St. Patrick's Day in kindergarten, so Lucy's scrambled eggs needed to be "shambled eggs" (a la shamrocks), and so on and so forth) :). He also got to start on his spring soccer team this Wednesday and when I went to pick him up after school, he ran all the way across the blacktop screaming "HOOOORRRRAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!! It's SOCCER DAY!!!!!!" And, we had my mom's first social event since her accident - just a little gathering of friends - last night, a huge milestone on her road to recovery, so that was pretty great, too. :)

This is exactly what I was talking about when I replied to the WASC question. Asking about our lives really makes us feel special; well, me at least. My sister (also a senior), my mom and I all went to Glen Ivy Day Spa yesterday as a pre-celebration for both of us turning 18 this year; her birthday is in just a week and a half. It was one of the best days I've ever had in my life, simply bonding with my mom and my sister. Family is everything to me, so it was amazing.

Well I got hit by a bus twice riding my bike home and I cut my index fingers on both hands one with glass and the other with cardboard so I have had a crappy week to say the least.

bike.jpgI saw a kid riding to school on something like this, but with only 2 bikes this morning. It was pretty cool, but I have no idea how he got off the bike once he got to school!

I got word from one of my colleges that they don't mind if I drop AP Lit. I just need word from two others, and hopefully soon my life will be a little bit less dominated by analysis of "classic" literature...

I'm having surgery in 2 weeks from today, sort of nervous because I've never been put under. And the recovery time is about 8-12 months. But on the plus side, during spring break my friends are coming over and we are having a complete harry potter marathon! SO EXCITED!

I just received my progress report and I have straight A's!!!!!!! And my mom agreed to let me start driving this summer. I got a summer job at a local library and I am ahead in 4 of my classes by about a whole school week, which means more sleep this week! I've so excited to go to school, because now I will be super concentrated! Oh, and also, I finished my "Half the Sky" PowerPoint. Maybe I'll add some minor details, but the bulk of it is all done!

MiniCav's! Too cute. It's a little late, but Happy Saint Paty's!! I'm very glad your mom is feeling better Mrs. Cav, it must feel great for both of you to have her back home.

Thank you!! It IS great having her back in her space, and it's definitely making a difference in her recovery. :)

Congrats on the progress report!

 Books or movies?! :)

My friend Jason who came to speak has a crazy story about putting people under - at one point when he was in Sudan (I think...it might have been his Uganda trip, but I'm pretty sure it was Sudan), he was operating on a guy who'd been hurt and put him under.  A number of locals were in the room "supervising" the surgery (they weren't sure they could trust Jason and his team since they were outsiders) and right after the guy went under, they all left.  Jason asked the translator what had just happened and the translator said, "Oh, they went home to get their guns becuase they think you killed their friend."  (they sent some other guys after them and explained the whole procedure and it all worked out OK, but can you imagine?!?!?!?!?!)
