N.Y. school district apologizes for teacher's Nazi Germany assignment

An upstate school system apologized Friday after students got a writing assignment in which they were instructed to prove their loyalty to Nazi Germany by arguing Jews are "evil" and the source of that government's problems.

sad to see how anti-semitic ideals still exist today but it's even sadder that is coming from a school of all places

I think the assignment was to put it in perspective of a Nazi and i can see how this would be a great assignment but it got a little out of hand.

This sounds like the type of assignment that helps students to understand their opinion by better understanding the opposite view. Obviously, the subject matter is concerning, but often times, fighting for the OTHER side helps you with the argument for your actual belief.

I understand the art of writing pursuasively on subjects that go against your personal beliefs but I think that using such a controversial subject in a high school classroom setting was innapropriate and not at all thought out.

I understand the assignment completely especially if this was in a high school world history class but the teacher has to moderate the assignment cuz kids will be stupid and racist and over exaggerate things in the assignment per say, and definitely offend people so it would be wise to stay away from that teaching style

I would never write an essay supporting anti-semitic views, whether or not the teacher was requiring it. That is despicable.

I think a moment of introspection is really advised before encouraging students to have "a different perspective" in what is possibly one of the most textbook cases of black-and-white morality in history.

the assignment was set up to view the nazi's point of view which is not a bad idea, i think the whole jews are evil and the source of the problems was a "little" over the top.

Even though this assignment had good intentions, the audience it was targeted for was not appropriate. The problem, I think, stems from how the teacher explicitly states how Jews are the problem.
