5 year old Kentucky boy fatally shoots 2 year old sister

A 5 year old boy accidentally shot his sister, Caroline Sparks, who was 2 years old, with the .22 caliber rifle he got for his birthday.

Crickett, the company that made the rifle, features three .22-caliber rifles for kids, with the slogan My first rifle.

This tragedy comes after two other incidents in the past month involving young children shooting others. A 4 year old Tennessee boy shot and killed a 48 year old woman and a 6 year old boy was killed in New Jersey after being shot in the head by his 4 year old playmate.

What do you think of kids this young being allowed to have guns? What about the company that markets guns specifically for kids?

Isnt this enough reason to have more gun control laws? If this isnt enough of a tragety then I dont know what is.

This is so messed up. 5 year old kids should NOT be allowed to have guns!!! It scares me knowing that teenagers can use guns, but a 5 year old? Knowing the kids I have babysit, I don't think they are quite yet old enough to understand a gun and the consequences it can have. SO. MESSED. UP.

I disagree with this, because I feel like the media is putting more emphasis on these kinda news stories to strike more fear into citizens so that they will pass more gun control laws that will take away your rights.

They SHOULD put more kind of emphasis on these stories! A five year old shot & killed his two year old sister. What kind of parent lets their five year old handle guns?? Whether they thought it was loaded or not. This is despicable. Sorry, I just agree very strongly with Maddy.

What kind of parents would give their 5 year old boy an actual gun for his birthday?! I don't even think its right for little kids to have waterguns or Nerf guns or anything that even resembles a gun because they just grow up with violence that way. Video games are worse! Little kids having the satisfaction of killing virtual people? The death of this little girl is a direct result of raising kids with guns whether they shoot water, foam darts, or actual bullets, its not right.

The right to bear arms shouldn't be extended to children. If no other limits are put on the Second Amendment- you know, unlike the limits we have on the First Amendment (clear and present danger) and the Fourth Amendment (probable cause)- then we could at LEAST keep things made with the intention to kill out of the hands of someone that may not even be in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, much less a citizens' militia.

Like I said, they ARE putting emphasis on these stories. Things like this happen all the time, its just that the media is reporting these stories more often because they want these gun control laws to be passed.

My dad has been a police officer for almost 30 years and he has never brought his gun home or allowed it to be any kind of danger to us. There is a right way to handle a gun and putting it in the hands of a five year old is not the right way. I agree with Maddy and Ashley, these stories should be brought to public attention. Nothing justifies killing a child.

Ah, yes. Children /do/ get shot all the time. That means we should never do anything to try preventing it. Brilliant.
