A mother who persuaded her adopted teenage daughter to become pregnant by artificial insemination because she wanted a baby for herself has been jailed for five years in Britain, in a case that raises concern over how easily donor sperm can be obtained.

Previously secret court documents showed that the daughter, a virgin, was made to inseminate herself alone in her bedroom seven times over a two-year period starting in 2008 when she was 14, using syringes of semen bought online by the mother from sperm bank Cryos in Denmark.

She eventually became pregnant at 16 and gave birth at 17. The extraordinary circumstances of her pregnancy came to light after midwives became suspicious of the mother because she was trying to prevent her daughter from bonding with the new baby.

this is straight up wrong and disgusting. why would you force your child to have a baby. Im pretty sure i would not want my child to have a baby at 17.

The mom's got screws loose, and the daughter has been put through Hell for it. I can only hope she and the child end up okay.

It's crazy t o me that everyone is fighting for girls to have the right to have children and have the ability to get birth control and abortions witout their parent's consent, but when this girl doesn't want to her mom can force her to and nothing is done about it? I get that parents are the ulitmate authority in their kids' lives, but no one should be forced like this! Especially when they are UNDER 18!! Not sure if I'm making any sense but this is mind-blowing to me...

I dont think 5 years is enough time for this woman. Like Anna said this was so wrong hopefully the daughter can recover from this abuse.

This is messed up. How could the mother force her own daughter to be used like this for her own personal gain? This is horrible and I'm glad this woman was put in jail for child cruelty. If I was a parent I would never want my child to be pregnant at such a young age.

I agree with Anna and also that donor sperm is too easy to obtain, if you can just buy it on the internet. I think a doctor should be involved in the process. Even if the daughter had agreed to it, I think this would still be wrong because there is no way to be sure that the daughter wasn't agreeing out of fear. Also, from the article, it seems there are no age restrictions or any restrictions at all involved in buying donor sperm online. From reading the article and knowing what this mother did to her daughter, I don't think she should be allowed to keep custody of her 3 adopted daughters.

So she didn't think about adopting another girl? I mean the teen that had the child was adopted, why couldn't she adopt another... ya the mom is screwed up.
What will they do with the baby now? since the daughter didn't want her in the first place....?

 I totally agree. This woman should not be allowed out of prison in my opinion. If she is, she should be put in a mental facility or something because this is just mind blowing to me how someone can do this to a 14 year old.

The part that gets me is that being adopted is already a hard life for most due to the reason why they were put in foster care plus living with some stranger. I really hope that she isn't to messed up from this experience and but she will for sure be a strong mother after all this if she doesn't go physco.

I wonder if she threatened her daughter because I don't believe that you can force anyone into anything. The daughter could've resisted in anyway possible and what abut the doctor!! He isn't allowed to do this to a minor. Artificial insemination is for older married women who are financially stable and have been struggling to have a baby, not for teenage girls. I wonder if the mother wanted to have a baby from a certain donor. This is disgusting.
