Woman survives harpoon shooting by husband

A woman is recovering in a Rio de Janeiro hospital after being shot through the mouth by her husband with a harpoon gun.

The Brazilian woman's husband was cleaning his harpoon gun Monday night when it accidentally went off. The spear hit her in the jaw and mouth, before lodging in her spine. Miraculously, she survived. Doctors say if the spear had hit 1 cm to one side, she would have died. If all goes well, she will be discharged within a week and is expected to recover fully.

Just last month, another man in Brazil was cleaning his harpoon when it misfired and hit him in the left eye and skull. He also survived.

It looks like brazil needs stricter harpoon control laws.

Its like holding a gun to your face and re-loading it! People just need to be more careful where they point those harpoons!
