Student texts v bullies

A leading education technology company on Wednesday announced it would give schools a free and confidential way for students to tell school officials via text that they are being bullied or are witnessing bullying. Blackboard's TipTxt program could change the school climate or reveal just how pervasive student-on-student harassment has become.

The service will be offered to half the nations schools for free, maybe it will be on the form of an app or a number you can just text.

The company says things (rumors) always come by word of mouth, so what if we get it straight from the direct source?

Do you think this program will succed in ending some bullying/harassment?

I think this is a really great idea, since students are always on their phones anyway, it's making it safer and easier to get help. I do think that runs the risk of people abusing the idea and taking it as a joke, though.

I agree with Molly, peopole could totally take advantage of this in the wrong way. However, If I was afraid to talk to a teacher about being bullied texting would be useful since everyone does it anyway. This could go both ways I think.

I love this idea! Like Molly said, students are always always on their phones, so what a perfect way to combat bullying. I think a lot of us would've loved to have this throughout high school.

i think this is a good idea because some people are afraid to speak up. at least this way kids can report it without being noticed. the bad part about this though is that kids won't be sticking up for their peers in public, but simply just reporting it in secret.
