Australian Prime Minister speaks out in support of Gay Marriage (Team 2)

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-09-02/rudd-appears-on-q-and-a/4930540

Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, defended his possition of gay marriage to a pastor when he was questioned in Brisbane. The Christian pastor in the Brisbane audience asked the Prime Minister how he could "Call himself a Christian" when he defends gay marriage. Prime Minister Rudd defended his position, citing several allusions to the Bible and how he interperets it.

Do you agree with Prime Minister Rudd's assertion that defending traditional marriage using the Bible is similar to defending slavery by using the same source?

But the bible doesnt say anything about same sex marriage being anything worse than unnatural. I mean, just because something is not supposed to happen doesn't mean it is a plague to society. Just think about it. We would be SO far behind had we not done things and persecuted the "unnatural", i.e. we wouldn't swim, build aeroplanes, or even have little contraptions that could let us speak to eachother from miles away (cell phones). If something is unnatural, but ultimately harmless, why try to stop it?

I think the pastor has every right to defend his religion and hold accountable anyone that has his same religion. But the Prime Miister can do and say as he pleases he is his own person. And he will have to live with his choices that he decides.

I don't agree with the minister's assertion. Just because he found references of homosexuality in the bible, that doesen't make gay marriage acceptable. In fact, the bible warns against homosexuality as a sin.

There is nothing wrong with gay marriage and the fact that many people wish to hide behind their religion as a cover just puts a bad image on them and their religion. Religion is meant to be forgiving and just, it is supposed to help guide us through our live not control us. The fact that the Prime Minister is so understanding on this subject is amazing.

The pastor has the right to his own opinion, but people should not use religion to deny others rights. We should all be working to create equal rights and opportunity for all indiviuals, regardless of who they are or what they believe in.

I think people think that most Christians are completely against gay marriage, but in reality they are not.
