Oscar nominated Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou has been fined 7.48 million yuan ($1.2 million) for violating China's one child policy. A letter was sent to Zhang from the the family planning bureau in Eastern China stating that he had two children "Over-quota."
The fine comes even after Zhang apologized for his "excessive children" in December. Zhang has two sons and a daughter, which violates China's one-child policy.
I understand why China made the one-child policy, but it is so sad. If you have another child you have to give it away. As parents I can't imagine the pain of giving away a child. I don't really know how to change or think of how to fix China's situation of the one-child policy because they do live in a communist country. It is just sad.
I think it's terrible how in some parts of the world there is such unfairness. It's unfair to limit the size of a family in China, but their government is very controlling so I don't know what can be done for now.
I think it's sad how China limits families to one child and that fine is extremely excessive but it's not surprising since China has had this law established for such a long time.
