THUGZ: High school outlaws yoga pants and leggings

A high school somewhere in Rockport, Massachusetts, has enforced a ban on yoga pants and leggings. Many students and parents said that the policy has gone too far.

20 female students, in protest, wore body hugging pants to school. They were sent home and told to change their clothes and some received a write up, warning them not to wear the outlawed pants to school. According to Thomas Boucher, a sophomore at Rockport High, he stated that "taking kids out of classes, missing school work and time to learn just because of material clothing does not make sense at all.

Do you think El Dorado should do the same thing as Rockport High School did, enforce a ban on yoga pants and leggings?

I do not think our school should outlaw yoga pants and leggings because they do no harm to the students and they are helpful in some sports and physical activities for girls.  Also, there would be alot of tension and anger stirred up between the students and the school which is not needed and can be avoided.

Individual Response by Timothy Ingle 2/12/14:

I don't think Eldo should ban yoga pants and leggings. bleh

Why should they be banned? If anything, ban the short shorts that show off the girls booty cheeks for "indecent exposure"

I don't think that El Dorado should enforce the same rule for a couple of reasons. First of all, I believe that if girls are forced to not wear certain clothes, then things just get worse. Remember when El Dorado and a bunch of other schools tried to enforce the rule that short shorts had to be a certain length? They tried to implement that and they failed because if every girl at El Dorado is wearing short shorts you aren't going to write up all of them. If we were to ban yoga pants and leggings, all of the girls would start wearing yoga pants and leggings in defiance to the rule. So, enforcing the rule would be very counter-productive because you'd be causing more of what you want to prevent. Also, the banning of yoga pants and leggings just doesn't make sense, why in the world would you not allow them to be worn? Sure they reveal the body a bit, but i'm pretty sure that I've seen boys wearing skinny jeans tighter than yoga pants or leggings. Why not ban those too? WHY NOT JUST BAN EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING OTHER THAN ROBES AND THEN WE CAN BECOME A SCHOOL FOR MONKS? In conclusion, El Dorado should not do this, and the high school that is doing this is going to see some consequences for their actions.

They're pants. If you're going to take time to write up a student because you don't like her pants you're obviously not concerned about their education like they say they are. That's literally so stupid.

Banning a certain item of clothing only makes people want to wear it more. I agree with Timmy in the sense that short shorts are just as bad if not worse than leggings and yoga pants. But just because you ban something doesn't mean people are going to stop wearing them.

I dont think that the school has the right to go to the extent to ban yoga pants and leggings. Its not up to the school to say what a person cant wear. Its up to the parents to tell their child they cant wear something.

I do not think El Dorado should make that a rule because it is just stupid and does not make sense. It is like the hat rule which did not even work, schools only do it to feel incharge.

I do not think that El Dorado should enforce this rule. There is nothing wrong with a girl wearing yoga pants or leggings. By wearing either of these things, you are not harming anyone in any way or these peices of clothing are not revealing in any way. I think this is a pointless rule and this school is just creating unnecesary drama. Girls should be able to wear comfortable clothing if they want and should not be punished for wearing these things.

if you ban yoga pants at El Dorado you will see an uprising like never before. Remember the hat ban rule? people tripped out pretty bad about that... and i know a couple people who transferred schools just so they could wear their hat to school. Make no mistake people LOVE yoga pants waaaaay more than some baseball cap. If they did ban yoga pants it would be mass civil disobedience. I mean i'd start wearing them just to prove the point. please don't make me wear yoga pants in protest....

I believe that a girl can wear far worse things than yoga pants to school. The problem is not the yoga pants, but society shaming girls for their choice of clothes and "promiscuity". The root of this problem is girls being viewed as sexual entities. Yoga pants that are see-through, shorts that are too short, and low-cut tops are not appropriate for school. However, yoga pants that are in good quality and cover what needs to be covered should not be banned anywhere.

I dont think El dorado should do this. As long as the people who wear these pieces of clothing are aware of what there wearing, and meet the requirements for the school rules, then they should be able to wear them.

I do not believe that El Dorado along with any school should enforce a rule against wearing yoga pants or leggings to school. Some may say these leggings may be too revealing, however students enjoy wearing them for there comfort. I find it ridiculous that they would make students go home simply for wearing yoga pants. In my opinion schools should not be worrying about what students are wearing rather than the education they are given and focusing on making sure every student is learning what they need to. Many schools, like ours in my opinion, spend way too much time worrying about so many little things that do not even matter rather than having concern for our education.

Yoga pants and leggings should never be banned because yoga pants and leggings are fabulous.
These articles of clothing don't even cause any harm. What's causing harm is society shaming females when they wear them. Yoga pants and leggings are not scandalous. They're pants. They're a regular piece of clothing and as far as I am concerned these pants cover up female's legs much more than shorts do. I don't have a problem with shorts but I'd much rather girls wear clothes that cover their legs/skin while flattering their figure rather than having to look at females with their butt cheeks hanging out of the ends of their shorts. If ELDO banned yoga pants and leggings, all hell would break loose. WWIII between the school and the students.

No I don't think we should ban leggings and yoga pants most girls like myself wear them cause they're comfortable some people say they might be too revealing but i have seen girls wear way more revealing clothing to school.

I don't think that there should be a ban on clothing unless it is discriminatory to any other students, or your'e basically naked. I think clothing is a medium to express yourself and to ban a specific article of clothing is ridiculous.

i agree that certain clothes should be banned at school, however yoga pants and leggings should not be. As someone who wears them i do not wear them for attention or anything else besides the fact thhat they are comfortable. Banning them would only cause more problems and create more controversy.

I dont think El Dorado should ban yoga pants or leggings because it doesn't affect anything. We have the right to wear them and it would be dumb to ban them. They are comfortable and help girls feel more relaxed at school. If anything we need to enforce the dress code we already have and not add any rules.

El Dorado should not ban yoga pants and leggings because they are not inappropriate and people would not stop wearing them. It is a waste of time because leggings and yoga pants are not revealing and completely cover all skin. There are articles of girl's clothing that are way more revealing that need to be banned, not yoga pants.
