Trail Mix: Machines for Crack Pipes

In recent weeks the first-ever crack pipe vending machine has been debuted in Canada. A nonprofit organization installed two of these dispensers in Vancouver to help try limiting all of the various health risks involved in crack use. The main goal is to help maintain and stop the spread of diseases such as Hepatitis C and HIV.

How do you think this will effect the city and surrounding environment? Do you think this will promote drug use, or help to contain it along with the many diseases associated with it? Will this prevent some people from visiting the city? Will this affect the surrounding businesses in any way?

I think that this promotes drug use because it is helping people and giving them the useful tools to use crack. However, this might prevent some health problems because people with not share pipes and can have their own.

I think this will definitely promote drug use but it will probably decrease health risks because people won't be sharing things as much. People will probably want to stop going to those areas of the cities and business will probably decrease but the drug users will probably keep the business up.

Absolutely will promote drug use. Kids will have access to them like soda machines and no one will stop them. It can give Vancouver a bad image as a city of crackheads.

First Heroine, now crack; i don't know whats going on with these vending machine drugs but it needs to stop. It is promoting drug use and encouraging the distribution of drugs in public places. Hopefully this doesn't  become a fad or something because people will then think that doing drugs is ok and nothing bad will happen to them.

Drugs are bad... mkayhmm

I think that this is a bad idea just because it will only promote the use of the drug.

It promotes the use of drugs but it still may prevents some health risks

This will lead to an increase of drug abuse in the city which may eventually spread to others. Though may not be the intention, this will promote drug use among the citizens and especially among young teens and adults, theoretically it should cut down on the diseases associated from the drug but many others may increases. I think it will prevent people from visiting as many of the drug users flock to the city. The surrounding area in time may be driving into the ground as more and more people suffer from the affects.

I think this will bring in a bad environment around this vending machine and this definitely promotes drug use and although it may help prevent HIV and hepatitis C If someone is constantly using crack I think that's the least of their worries.

This is really pathetic that Canada allowed this to happen and, this will encourage people to do drugs.

I think this will increase drug use, but not as much as people might think. I think the decrease of diseases will be greater than the increase of drug use. I'm curious where the excess money will go to considering that this is a non profit organization. Also, how are they going to present this vending machine I'm curious, whether a respectable pharmacy or like a soda vender?

i think that this will definitely promote drug use because it definitely isn't stopping it, kids are going to have easier access to these things just like the heroin in Australia. yeah, for the most part its going to stop the spread of diseases that come along with the use of these drugs but for the most part i believe they should do something to promote sobriety so that they don't get the diseases. it will most likely prevent families with children going to this area as often.

I believe that this will promote drug use because it makes things more easily accessible. Also, I believe that it will make Canada a less-approachable environment, especially for families with small children. This may help prevent the spread of diseases, but I think that better solutions could be put into action.

This will promote drug use because it gives kids the mentality that drugs are okay. I think that there should be organizations that give out clean needles to drug users rather than the vending machine idea. These machines will allow anyone to buy their contents and will create bad areas where they are located. I think this is the wrong way to go about solving this problem.

I think that it does promote drug use and will show that it is okay to do drugs. this will upset more parents

Putting a crack pipe vending machine in a public area is only going to promote drug use and create an environment that most people will not want to bring their families to. This could hurt businesses in the surrounding area and because if it becomes a "bad neighborhood" then people will stop going to the businesses located in the area.

I think it will make it safer for users and in th elong run will curb the diseases associated. I dont think it is the safest route to take, but i do see why it would help people out.

It will definitely encourage drug use since it will be more easily accessible. And even if it prevents some health risks involving sharing pipes, it will still cause more health problems due to excessive use of drugs.

I think that by doing this it will promote drug use. They are making it easier for people to obtain it and the parts of Canada that are doing this may be visited less my others. However, I do think this will prevent some diseases and health issues.
