Reports of sexual assault in the U.S. military are up 50 percent

The Obama administration said the sharp increase follows steps it took over the past year to encourage alleged victims to come forward to report such abuse. The issue received heightened attention from the Obama administration and Congress after last year's report also showed a startling jump in reported sex abuse claims.claims. Tsongas added better reporting and other steps to address the issue "does not obviate the simple fact that these heinous crimes continue to occur at an alarming rate, to both men and women."

What should the government do to prevent more crimes occurring? What should they do to make men and women feel safer?

The government should be more strict and send out more police to moniter high crime areas. The government should arrest more bad people and implement the death penalty to make people feel safer.

i think there needs to be more severe punishments to people who are sexually abusing others in order to scare many of them and prevent them from wanting to commit those crimes.

It is clear that the sexual assault charges must be stricter if the already strict punishments aren't good enough. There should also be more emphasis or education which would lessen such assaults

The people who are accused of sexual abuse should not be receiving a mere slap on the wrist. They need strict punishments to discourage it. Also, they need outlets where it is easier for people to admit to being sexually abused, so that more of these crimes can be investigated.

I agree with the presence of police in these areas to keep this from happening as well as more severe punishments for these crimes.

Sexual abusers should receive more strict punishments and we should have more police in areas with a high crime rate

The US government should make the offense of this crime more severe and there's not much more the they can do to make them feel more safe. They already have almost everything separate and even then it doesn't help much.

The government needs to become more strict with the laws and have more police on watch and have them enforce the laws more on the people.

I think that the military needs to actually discharge members of the military who are charged and convicted of sexual assault in addition to their criminal punishment. In 2010, The Department of Defense processed reports of 3,198 new assaults but estimated the actual number of assaults to be closer to 19,000. However, these reports only resulted in convictions against 244 perpetrators. Why is this happening? because too often they perps run off and the victims are silenced and the reports are not investigated.

I think the government should be more strict on laws, while the police watch more areas. And add more severe punishments.
