European Reassurance Initiative: Obama announces $1bn fund___TRAIL MIX

President Obama: ''We will be expanding our exercises and training with allies to increase the readiness of our forces''. President Barack Obama has announced plans for a $1bn (£600m) fund to increase US military deployments to Europe, during a visit to Poland. In April, 150 US soldiers were sent to Poland for military exercises amid growing tensions with Russia. Speaking at a news conference in Warsaw with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, Mr Obama warned Russia against provoking further tensions in Ukraine. Mr Obama reaffirmed the US commitment to Nato's principle of collective defence, announcing plans for a $1bn European Reassurance Initiative.

The programme, which will fund additional US military rotations to Europe, will need congressional approval.

What do you think of this recent activity Obama has with Europe? Do you think this program will receive congressional approval?

I don't think we should get involved unless we truly need to, however we do need to be prepared in case war does break out. I'm not sure if congress will pass it because it could provoke Russia.

I feel like we have no buisness being in Europe. We need to to save ourselves before we try and help others.

I personally do not agree with or believe what our President is doing is the right move. Who knows if this program will receive congressional approval..probably since we always seem to end up in other countries, I just hope this does not escalate into anything.

I do not think he should be putting in more money into any war funds. We have learned from the past that meddling in too much of foreign affairs can be endangering. We need the money to spend on poverty here at home.

I don't think we should be in Europe. I don't think its good for our military and we shouldn't be spending more money on the wars.

I don't think we should be getting involved into foreign affairs. We should only get involved if we need to, like Gavin said, we still do need to be prepared if war does break out.

Obama's activity in Europe is not doing anything beneficial. I agree with the Polish PM in saying is business here will most likely make tensions worse between them and Russia. The US soldiers being there wont do very much honestly and this wont get through congress, nothing does.

I think it is good that we are preparing our troops for a possible attack because Putin is crazy and you can never trust him.

I do not think we should be sending military in Europe. It is unnecessary, but it does help our military. This might receive approval, but I doubt it.

I don't think that we have any place in Russia at this time. However, this is a good thing in the sense that if something were to happen that required immediate military action on our part, we would be prepared.

We have no right to butt in to stop Russia.

I don't think we should go to war with Russia, but if that happens, like how it looks right now, then i think we need to be prepared to fight. If we get into a war with Russia, it will probably be one of the worst, if not the worst conflict we've ever been in.
