Cuba has sent 165 health professionals, more than any other nation, to Sierra Leone to help the fight against Ebola. Cuba also plans to send a further 296 doctors and nurses to Liberia and Guinea. Cuba has a long history of sending its doctors around the world despite their small workforce.
If Cuba has been able to send more doctors to west Africa to fight Ebola, then what does that say about the responses of other nations? Should other nations, such as the US, send more doctors to nations affected by Ebola?
I think every nation takes this ebola matter very seriously. The reason that they may be sending a lot of doctors to many other regions is because they live on such a small island where people could be more compacted together. They are trying to solve the problem before it becomes a major issue to their county.
I agree with Devin. And, I think that they want it to be eradicated before it gets near them. Seeing as they are very compacted, anything could spread very quickly. Although ii do feel that other countries should send more doctors around the world, I understand how dangerous it could be for them.
Look, i dont think its on the government or nation to send doctors and or other professionals. I think its should be the people to freely say, "i am willing to help in any way i can." I think the nation should provide these people so that they can help without the worry on finances. The real question is. why aren't people who are capable of helping, standing up and doing what is right for the people in great need?
I think that the more help to fight Ebola the better. however, since Ebola is highly contagious they should watch the number of people being sent to West Africa so that it does not spread any further.
Like what the others said, Cuba is trying valiantly to stop the virus to reaching them, where the population is so dense that it would be devastating if Ebola spreads to it. I believe that the other nations should all contribute as much as they can afford to (financially and socially). It's understandable that smaller countries have containment as a higher priority though, whereas a big nation (i.e. USA) considers the fight against ISIS a bigger threat.
I'm actually curious as to if this history their nation has for sending aid everywhere is partially politically motivated. They are still communist and their people struggling compared to most nations. The US still has a trade embargo with them as well.
I think we should be encouraging people in the medical field to help out and volunteer over in Africa with the Ebola crisis, and promise to supply them with extensive saftey measures so that it would be very difficult for them to contract the disease. The only concern with sending more help is that when they travel back to the U.S. there is a possibility that they could be bringing the disease to our country.
Cuba's leftist government has proven its willingness to send its help to those in need, it helps Cuba's international image as well as fights devastation. Cuba sends more medical aid than Canada, France, the UK, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, and the US, combined. Thanks Cuba, for doing what the US and what the rest of the world should be doing.
I agree with Foley. Cuba realizes that if someone in their country is effective, that could have catastrophic damage on the country as a whole; more so than the US. However, that doesn't mean that other countries are not taking Ebola seriously, its just that Cuba has so much more to lose than other nations. However, I feel other nations with more advanced medical programs should sent more doctors to study and try to find a cure for Ebola. Ebola is not a regional threat, as we have seen, it can spread to other countries. Therefore, I do believe that other countries can do a little more to stop this Ebola outbreak.
I think ever nation should be doing their part to help fight the disease. Obviously some nations ca do more than others but every little bit helps. the only precaution should be screening the doctors ad nurses before they return to their home countries.
I think it is really great of Cuba to send so many doctors but I think we shouldn't send more because that would just increase the spreading of the disease in our country. If we send doctors who are willing to work in a dangerous area they should stay there or be checked carefully if they want to come back to the US.
Because of their size, I believe strategically Cuba realizes they can not defend themselves from the rest of the world if an epidemic was to spread internationally. Therefore, they send extreme amounts of support to put down outbreaks such as Ebola to prevent it from reaching their own country. I do believe the United States needs to send more doctors. We have the means to do so, which is why I find it ridiculous how Cuba has sent the most aides. It's embarrassing to see other countries out do the number one nation in the world.
