Winds between 70 to 120 km/h hit the city of Hydro. This city isn't built to withstand such winds which lead to the closure of 2 schools and tens of thousands without power. The schools asked the parents that they not send their children to school that day. These winds have damaged cars, houses, and buildings. Flooding and landslides also played another factor in the cities damages. Friday is expected to be clear as a break until the rains return next week.
Considering that they seem to have some type of storm system come through a few times every year, don't you think that the buildings and cities should be better prepared to disasters like this? Weather like this leads a potential danger for the students at school and the people traveling to and from work.
One proposed solution is to start fixing the infrastructure problems is to move power lines under ground, or to simply not allow people to have trees near power lines. Both of which sound good to me.
I agree with Sami. Fixing just the power grid alone would improve the situation there so much. Other things like drainage systems to the ocean and other water sources would help alleviate flooding and water damage to foundations.
of course. The city, although very costly and difficult, should take every measure to ensure the safety of their citizens, and buildings. This city knows it is very vulnerable to these storms and dangerous weather so they should take every precaution to save their city. safety should be the governments top priority
I'd think that hydro would be prepared for things like this but sadly that's not the case. I hope that in the future they build buildings that are able to withstand the intense wheather and as for the buildings that are suffering i hope they are able to keep the structure intact somehow.
