43 college students in the Mexican State of Guerrero went missing, and were found dead four months later. The students were abducted, killed, burned and thrown into the San Juan River. The students were believed to have been captured by Iguala police and turned over to a gang. The gang accused of executing the students thought they belonged to a rival gang, also operating around the town of Iguala where the students were last seen.
the police should in fact be punished, as well as the gangs. in california cops were punished and fired for killing someone, it shouldnt be any different in mexico
I think the police should be punished with death row. They were part of the plan in killing these students. even though they are police officers, they still can be thrown in jail.
As an American we know all too well about injustices done upon the people by the police force. However, in Mexico, this is a daily occurrence. I have been following this story for awhile now-and I am a huge champion of the #innocent43 which is the social media campaign whence the event occurred. The fact of the matter is this: the Mexican government is not a government, but a Drug Cartel controlled tyranny than people of this world refuse to recognize because of the commerce and trade that we (as America) receive from the country. This is not the first time that students- ATTEMPTING TO EXERCISE FREE SPEECH IS PROTEST AGAINST THE MAYOR'S WIFE. A RIGHT WE AS AMERICANS ENJOY AND HOLD SACRED EVERY SINGLE DAY- have gone "missing": this is just the first time people are standing up.
I think the police officials should be punished the most brutal way possible not only for what they did but the fact that they are police men that are supposed to be protecting the people not hurting the people.
I think that the police should be dismissed from the task force effective immediately and put on trial for being negligent. I think this because I believe that police officers everywhere should uphold and follow the law regardless of the scenario at hand. It is their job to uphold justice and protect law abiding citizens from harm. These particular officers didn't abide by the law, therefore I believe they should be punished by it for their negligence and be held responsible for the death of the 43 college students.
I think that the police should be punished even though they weren't the ones who actually killed the students, they still had a big part in it. They should definitely be fired because they aren't representing their jobs in a fair way. Also, I think they should go to jail as well as the gang that executed the students.
The police should not have taken the students to a gang if the students did something wrong then what they should have done is arrest the students, not take them to a gang where they know that the students would get hurt/killed. The police should get fired even maybe taken in to custody because it mostly was their fault that they got killed because they were the ones to hand them over to the gang. Just like alex said too that you don't really expect things like this to change because mexico is very corrupt.
As most Americans know, the Mexican police forces are corrupt to the max. it is not a matter of the individual police officers as it is a corruption issue. The gangs and cartels have next to unlimited funds to ensure drug trade to the U.S. I think that with unlimited drug funds gangs would have no issue killing students.
Although we live in America where we often take freedoms such as speech and religion for granted, it is important to realize and comprehend the fact that this freedom is one that does NOT exist everywhere in the world. People die in heinous ways and go unrecognized everyday. If the Mexican government even slightly wishes eradicate corruption, I believe that this case can be used as a footing to bring those officials and law enforcers to justice.
The police should be heavily punished. It is their job to handle crimes and misbehavior, not gang units. I agree this police force should be brought to justice immediately.
I think the police should have taken action instead of turning them over to a gang unit, the police are supposed to protect the people but in this case they did the exact opposite. Mexico is already corrupt so this most likely will not be fixed
This was a horrible crime and there is no question that if they should be punished. I don't know how I would punish them- personally. I just know that firing them should be first thing. The police's job is to protect the people, and keep order and peace. So when they are in charge of the crime and disorder, there is just a domino effect towards the community with citizens losing trust and going against their home. So they should be fired and have further punishments for causing a crime that damages the trust in government and hurting all the family members and friends involved.
Without question I think the police officers deserve to be fired and perhaps even pressed charges against. As corrupt as Mexico is, I feel that the government will do something because actions like these draw out the emotions of the majority and not acting on such corruption can lead to deadly consequences for the government.
I think the police should be fired immediately. Although they may not have murdered the students themselves, it doesn't change the fact that if the police didn't turn them over to a gang, 43 college students might not be dead right now.
I believe that no matter how they are punished they should be punished extremely for this horrific crime that both the police and the gang have committed. I think the police officers and the gang members should be punished under the laws of Mexico if that is saying anything at all.
