Miso Soup: Nazis on the Rise

"Pegida in Austrian 'anti-Islamisation' drive"

http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-eu-31090920

Starting as a response to the large amount of refugees Germany was taking in from the Middle East following government led genocides and years of tyranny, Pegida has now begun to blossom into something much bigger than a mere protest group. Having begun in Much, Germany (the home of Nazi Germany in the 1940's) they have now spread into Vienna, Austria-the home country of Adolf Hitler.

Now we're not saying these people are Nazis; but consider the facts:

  • Germany is famous for their Anti-Semitic ways/ those of Islamic faith are considered to be Semitic
  • Adolf Hitler was a convicted criminal before he took the helm of the Nazi party/the leader of Pegida was also a convicted criminal before he started this group
  • The Nazi party was famous for propaganda films etc./ if you visit Pegida's FaceBook page (although I do not recommend it for Homeland security might be curious), they have begun producing propaganda pieces such as films, signs, and buttons
  • The Nazi party grew very quickly/ Pegida's population is growing by the thousands every month
  • The Nazi party, although opposed to anything "non-Aryan", mainly opposed Jews/ Pegida is mainly "anti-Islamic", but opposes (openly) anything "non-Germanic"

Question: Now that Pegida is on the move, should we become more concerned? Are they a threat to be reckoned with? Or are they just a group of angry protesters?

They should be seen as a threat because one day there just a group of angry protesters and then the next they are committing serious crimes.

I think precautions should be put on them and if they begin to make threats something should be done.

They should been seen as a threat and they should be stopped as soon a they can be because they could start committing very serious crimes. With they're beliefs they can hurt a lot of people. They are not just a group of angry protesters they are a threat.

I feel that they should first be closely monitored. If their actions become unlawful, then we should impede them.

I think this should be watched because no one thought of anything from the rise of power before world war II, and I think we can easily prevent something like this.

I also agree with many of you. One main reason why we study history is so that we can learn from our mistakes and never let another holocaust happen. So when a group begins to show clear signs, they should be closely monitored and stopped at the source if needed to, rather than let it go out of hand, have people hurt, then stopped. We have to be cautious to prevent bigger problems.

I think we should see them as a threat even if they are bunch of angry protesters. Protesters can become harmful to other people if they are not controlled.

Although I believe that every threat should be taken very seriously, Pegida is like any other hate group or organization with extremely biased views. The reason we see something such as Pegida growing rapidly is because it brings out old ideas and may appeal to many, not matter how ridiculous the doctrine. They have a Facebook page because we live in a media age where almost everything can be communicated through the internet. Their leader has a criminal history, which can be said is typical for any leader of a hate group.

In short, Pegida shouldn't be a major problem but is certainly one to keep an eye on. The proper authorities should take immediate action if they were to receive information about them posessing weapons and plans to harm the public.

I think they should be taken as a threat because history proves what could happen if we are not careful.
