The Cavannites- 6th Student Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Freshman

On the night of January 25th, 10 to 12 students attended a small party. The use of alcohol and marijuana was used at the party. Later in the night a 19 year old girl was sexually assaulted by 6 young boys who attend Englewood High School. The young girl had told the police everything and said that her boyfriend's mom had been home during the party. The 6 boys were arrested.

Do you think that the girl's boyfriend's mom could have prevented this sexual assault by eliminating the alcohol and marijuana and paying closer attention to the kids?

I for sure think the mother could have stepped in and, if not completely stopped this behavior, monitored it. Another case like this occurred not too long ago where a father threw his daughter a Playboy themed birthday party where alcohol was served and drugs administered to underage friends of the daughter. The father then was arrested for child-neglect and endangerment. In this case, unfortunately, a rape occurred; and they boys were punished justly. However I feel that the adult in the equation needs to face some consequences as well for neglecting the situation at hand.

I agree with Maddie, the adult that was involved in the situation should by held accountable in accordance with the law.

I believe the mother could have kept a closer eye on these kids. I wouldn't blame the mother fully because her child was having a small group of friends over not throwing a huge party. She was probably giving them privacy and unfortunately they decided to engage in illegal activities. If she was aware of what was going on she would have stopped it. All in all it was the boys who committed the rape. Even if you are under the influence of marijuana and alcohol you still can decipher from making impactful decisions like rape.

Yes the mom should have been paying more attention because they were drunk and high and probably didn't know what they were doing and the girl probably was too but she still had the power to run or tell them to stop some way to get out of the situation. But the boys were punished in the right way because they did commit the crime and shouldn't have done what they did to that girl.

I believe the mother should have kept a closer eye on the party and made sure something extreme like such did not happen. what other purpose does she serve being at the party? I assume she was there to make sure things did not get out of hand and she wasn't there to party with high school students. She should have done her job and regulated the party more appropriately.

I think that the mother should have been paying attention to the kids, especially if there were drugs and alcohol involved. I feel like since it was under her roof she should get some kind of punishment. Not anything big but just so she learns from the mistake.

I do not think by eliminating the use of alcohol and marijuana at the house would have helped the mother prevent the assault. It should have never happened in the first place because they are old enough to use their own judgment. If anything was going to be prevented, it should have been because the mother should have been supervising more.

i think the mom should have kept an eye on her kids. she should see a difference in them if they were doing drugs and drinking alcohol. This should have never happened if she watched the kids and the party

The mother should not have allowed underage drinking or marijuana use and should have supervised the kids. She could have stopped the students before they assaulted the young girl.

Being the adult there, the mother should have kept a closer eye on them. It is not entirely her fault, because those teens are old enough to know better. Under the influence or not, you should still be held accountable for your actions. Alcohol and marijuana are no excuse for their horrible actions.

The mother should have kept a closer eye on the children, clearly. She was responsible for the damage because it was under her "watch". She does deserve some consequences from the drugs and alcohol to the minors.
