Miso Soup: Isolated Tribe Ventures Out of Threatened Peru Forests

The Mashco-Piro are one of the last existing hunter gatherer civilizations in the world. The group has had little contact with anyone outside the forests of Peru and encounters with outsiders sometimes turn violent. The Mashco-Piro are beginning to leave the forests of Peru most likely due to illegal loggers destroying the environment of their homes.

What should the government do to the illegal loggers?, How should they handle the Mashco-Piro leaving the forests?

The loggers should be arrested for illegal logging and guarantee safety to the Mashco-Piro.

There should be a way to prevent this, instead of just punishing as it happens.

The Peruvian government needs to step up and protect the indigenous people of their land. Just as here is the US lands have been deemed national property and are guarded day and night, the lands of these people need to be deemed untouchable and protected to help preserve their culture and prevent any other violent altercations between native and city people.

They should be punished to protect the people.

They should definitey make distinct boundaries. The article said the Mashco-Piro were accused of wounding a teenager with a spear, and in 2012 of killing a local guide with a bamboo-tipped arrow. It also mentions 200 Mashco-Piro attacked a village with bows and arrows, killing residents' livestock and pets and carting off food, pots, pans, machetes and rope. This could be prevented by enforcing a new law protecting the tribe from illegal loggers and punishing them

I feel like they should be arrested and Peru officials should have more protection for those people's homes who are being destroyed

The government needs to make a bigger effort in protecting the land. The loggers should be put in jail.

The loggers should be arrested and there should be enforcements of protection of the environment and the peoples' homes that are there.

There should be a group in Peru created to protect this civilization and arrest the illegal loggers.

The government should definitely enforce the illegal logging in a stronger manner by either raising the punishment or by bringing more attention towards it. The tribe should communicate with the local government and agree to certain boundaries of their land.
