Japan's nuclear watchdog, the Nuclear Regulation Authority, had previously given a green light to the reopening of reactors 3 and 4 of the Kansai Electric Power Company's Takahama nuclear plant.
But locals successfully petitioned the court in Fukui Prefecture, where the plant is located, raising concerns about whether the reactors would survive a strong earthquake. Japan's 48 nuclear reactors are offline in the wake of the Fukushima disaster in 2011.
-Do you think that restarting Japanese nuclear plants would be the right thing to do amidst the recent tragedies that have occurred? Do you think that maybe it is time for Japan to search for new alternative methods of a stable energy source?
Nuclear energy is an extremely effective form of alternative energy, and is capable of highly benefiting a country's need. This being said, Japan does need to learn from their mistakes that caused the meltdown of Fukushima in 2011 (walls not tall enough, etc.), and create a more stable and efficient plant that will not cause another tragedy.
Just like Maddy said, nuclear energy is extremely efficient, but it comes with a massive cost, being that if something happens to it, it could cause massive problems to the entire nation of Japan.
I think that it is the right thing to do only because if there was a disaster and the nuclear plants weren't secure it could bring danger to those around it. Then this can also prevent another tragedy from happening.
I think restarting japanese nuclear plants wouldbe the right thing to do because it would take a lot of time to find a new alternative method for their energy source
i agree, as long as it is safe they should do it. nuclear energy is very powerful and since japan is a very high tech place, it should have as much energy as possible
Japan should restart some of the nuclear plants in less populated areas and wait till more efficient and protected plants can be made to open up ones near major cities.
